Questions about domains

Article with explanation about Domains Subdomains, Terminology of domains & their options.

Many clients that order hosting or domain first time are not aware of their options and about the various domain terms used.

In order to understand the terminology of domains and how they can be used I have written this, and I hope it helps you.

When you order hosting you can order your own domain : my-domain-name.com.
You can also ask us for rent free use of a sub domain of one of our domain names.

Usually saying a domain name one includes 3 parts: www.domain.com
The www is not usually needed, so domain.com would be enough in most cases.

The domains are divided into parts like SUB.domain.TOP
The so-called top is endings like .com .net .org .us .ph .com.ph .biz .info etc etc
The domain is the name itself like Yahoo, google, hotmail, my-domain-name.com etc etc
The SUBdomain is where the www usually is seen, WWW.abafe.com etc etc
I use SUBdomains on my family site like: MARTIN.reinert.info, JESSICA.reinert.info etc etc
Many tv stations use subdomain like: news.tv-station.com, weather.tv-station.com

To order hosting from me you do not need to order a domain. If you feel a domain is too expensive you can use a subdomain of one of our listed domains.
It also means that you depend on the subdomain, and you make that domain "parent" known to others at the same time as you advertise your own site with a subdomain.
If you want your own domain, a .com or .net or .info is a good choice. It is cheap and works just as well as any other.

The hosting plans include subdomains. This means that you can decide the name in front of the my-domain-name.com. YES.my-domain-name.com, ANY-NAME.my-domain-name.com etc etc and anything you want.
If you order one hosting plan, and use those subdomains the subdomain YES.my-domain-name.com will redirect visitors from http://YES.my-domain-name.com to: http://www.my-domain-name.com/YES and the YES will become a directory or folder of the main domain name my-domain-name.com.
This is not the case if you order a subdomain only.

If you order seperate hosting plan for a subdomain it will have its own username and password. Its files will be located in SUB.domain.com and not in www.domain.com/SUB as it is if you have a hosting account and create your own subdomains. (Described in previous paragraph.)
This is the kind of subdomains we offer for free rent. One only pays for hosting.

I hope this clears the issue about subdomains, so you are better able to decide what is the best solution for your needs.
